Best free logo makers and generators: what you actually get
The best free logo maker for a business that needs files it can actually use is Namecheap Logo Maker, because it hands over both a PNG and a vector SVG at no cost and puts no watermark on the result. Almost every other well known tool is free to design in and then asks for somewhere between $20 and $65 at the moment you try to download anything usable. This list ranks nine of them by what you walk away with when you spend nothing, and says where each one falls down.
Last updated 15 September 2026. Two tools named in the earlier version of this article are gone: Logaster now redirects to ZenBusiness, and Logotizer no longer resolves at all.

How the free tiers compare
Only two tools on this list let you leave with a vector file without paying anything. Prices below are one off payments in US dollars unless stated.
| Tool | What you get free | Vector file free | Cheapest paid tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Namecheap Logo Maker | PNG and SVG, no watermark | Yes | Free |
| Shopify Logo Maker | Free logo, formats not stated | Not stated | Free |
| Canva | PNG and JPG | No, Pro only | Canva Pro subscription |
| Adobe Express | PNG, JPG and PDF | No, not offered at all | Free plan covers it |
| Inkscape | Everything, it is open source | Yes | Free |
| LogoMakr | PNG at 250 pixels, credit link required | No | $29 |
| DesignEvo | Logo at 300 pixels, credit link required | No | $24.99 |
| Looka | Nothing, design only | No | $20 |
| Wix Logo Maker | Nothing, design only | No | $20 |
1. Namecheap Logo Maker
Namecheap Logo Maker is the only tool here that gives you a vector SVG for nothing, which is why it takes the top spot.
You build from an icon library and a set of layouts, then download PNG and SVG at no charge and with no watermark, however many logos you make. Commercial use is allowed, though you need a free Namecheap account before the download button works.
Worst at: the icon library is the same one thousands of other businesses draw from, so the odds of landing on something distinctive are low, and the editing controls run out quickly once you leave a template.
2. Shopify Logo Maker
Shopify Logo Maker is the quickest route to a free logo if you are opening an online shop.
This is the tool most people still call Hatchful. That address was retired in 2025 and it now lives at shopify.com/tools/logo-maker. Shopify states the logo is free and yours to own.
Worst at: the tool page never says which file formats you receive, so you cannot tell whether vector artwork is included, and the templates lean heavily toward retail.
3. Canva
Canva is the best free option when the logo is one small part of a wider set of material you are making yourself.
The free plan exports PNG and JPG, and the same artwork drops straight into social posts, decks and documents without being rebuilt.
Worst at: SVG export and transparent backgrounds both sit behind Canva Pro, so the free files are the ones a sign maker or a developer will hand straight back.
4. Adobe Express
Adobe Express is the strongest free tool on this list for typography and the weakest for file formats.
Free downloads cover PNG, JPG and PDF, and the font library is a genuine advantage over the icon led generators.
Worst at: Adobe Express has never offered SVG export on any plan, free or paid, so the logo will always need converting before it scales cleanly.
5. Inkscape
Inkscape is the only genuinely free option that produces a real vector logo you own outright.
It is open source, costs nothing at any point and writes SVG natively. The current stable release is 1.4.4, dated 6 May 2026.
Worst at: it is an empty editor, not a generator. There are no templates and no icon library, so it only helps if you can already draw.
6. LogoMakr
LogoMakr is fine for testing an idea and not fine for launching on.
The free download is a PNG at 250 pixels and you have to add a credit link back to LogoMakr wherever the design appears. Commercial use is not covered by that free file. Paid packages are $29 for PNG and JPG and $60 for the vector set of SVG, EPS and PDF.
Worst at: 250 pixels is too small for anything real, so the free tier is a preview rather than a logo.
7. DesignEvo
DesignEvo is the most generous of the tools that ask for a link back instead of money.
The free logo is capped at 300 pixels and you must link to DesignEvo from your site, but unlike LogoMakr it does allow commercial use on those terms. Paid tiers are $24.99 for PNG and JPG up to 5000 pixels, and $49.99 for the tier that adds SVG and PDF.
Worst at: a permanent link back is a real cost on a business site, and 300 pixels rules out signage.
8. Looka
Looka produces the best looking options on this list and lets you download none of them for free.
You can generate and refine as long as you like at no cost, but there is no free download at all. Basic is $20 for a single PNG, and Premium at $65 is the first tier that includes SVG, EPS and PDF along with full ownership.
Worst at: $65 is the highest cost here for usable artwork, and the output carries a house style other Looka logos share.
9. Wix Logo Maker
Wix Logo Maker makes sense mainly if the site it sits on is going to be a Wix site anyway.
Designing is free and the charge lands at the download step. Basic is $20, and Advanced at $50 is the tier where the SVG appears.
Worst at: nothing usable comes out without paying, and the value falls away if you are not already a Wix customer.
When a free logo maker is the wrong answer
A free logo maker is the wrong answer when the mark has to be distinctive, defensible and reproducible at any size. Every generator above assembles from a shared icon library, so another business can land on something very close to yours, and a trademark claim is much harder to defend when the elements were licensed rather than drawn.
Éire Graphic Design is a studio in Dublin, Ireland, rated 4.9 from 103 Google reviews, and our logo design work is drawn rather than assembled. We work nationally and across graphic design in Dublin.
Questions people ask
Can you use a logo from a free logo maker commercially?
Sometimes, and it depends on the tool. Namecheap Logo Maker, Shopify Logo Maker and Inkscape allow commercial use of the free file. DesignEvo allows it only while you keep a link back on your site. LogoMakr does not allow it on its free 250 pixel download.
Which free logo maker gives you an SVG?
Namecheap Logo Maker and Inkscape are the only two that give you a vector SVG without payment. Canva, Looka, Wix Logo Maker, LogoMakr and DesignEvo all keep SVG behind a paid tier, and Adobe Express does not offer it on any plan.
Why do free logo makers charge at the download step?
Because designing is cheap for them and files are the product. The paywall sits where you ask for high resolution or vector artwork, which is where the logo becomes usable. Expect $20 to $65 for that step across the tools listed here.
Can a logo made with a free generator be trademarked?
It is much harder. Trademark protection depends on the mark being distinctive, and a symbol taken from an icon library that any other business can license is weak on exactly that test.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free logo maker?
Namecheap Logo Maker, because it hands over both a PNG and a vector SVG at no cost and puts no watermark on the result. Most other tools are free to design in and then charge between about twenty and sixty five dollars at the moment you try to download anything usable.
Do free logo makers give you vector files?
Almost none of them do on the free tier, and vector is the format that matters. Without it you cannot scale the logo for signage or supply it to a printer properly. Check what the download actually contains before you spend time designing.
Can you trademark a logo made with a free logo maker?
Usually not. These tools build from stock shapes that are licensed to everyone who uses the platform, so the mark is not exclusively yours and a trademark application is likely to fail.
